The Warm Audio WA-47F FET Condenser Microphone recreates a high-SPL, low-noise classic known as a “hidden weapon” at top studios. The 1969 ’47-style FET’s ability to handle quick transients with detail made it popular in recording studios. The WA-47F features a cleaner top end and tighter, more controlled bass than typical tube microphones. Dave Grohl and Daft Punk inspired generations of drummers and engineers with their 47FET kick drums. David Lee Roth and Michael Stipe utilized the original for vocals to produce some of the most renowned compositions. The WA-47F is a studio workhorse with the same sound as that original microphone.

Full spectrum recording

Drawing from its namesake inspiration, the WA-47F features a K47-style capsule.The carefully reverse-engineered FET architecture created a condenser microphone with high-SPL that can handle a broad range of response without overloading. A light scooping and not-too-bright sound helps voices blend with live instruments without sacrificing subtlety. The 10dB pad boosts the highest Loudness of 137dB to 147dB, making it ideal for drumming and amplified instruments. Plus, with the addition of a 140 Hz low-cut filter, low-end muddiness is eliminated without compromising on substance.

Electric feel

This workhorse mic may look great, but its inner electronics demonstrate that it’s got bark and bite. A gold-sputtered condenser creates exceptional conductivity for the large-diaphragm, single-backplate design. The bespoke TAB-Funkenwerk output transformer, premium Fairchild transistors, and wima polystyrene capacitors give this mic an output impedance of 150 ohms, making it perfect for many professional usage with low noise and great power. The cardioid polar pattern captures stronger sounds without flattening their delicate qualities.

Studio Workhorse

Like the original, the WA-47F’s custom-tuned frequency response captures huge kick drum sounds, punchy guitar & bass cabs, and adds a pristine edge to solo vocals that need to stand out.

Kick Drum

Several engineers put a 47FET-style microphone on the front head of the kick drum in addition to a dynamic mic pointing towards the beater. The kick’s “snap” is captured by the beater’s dynamic mic, while the drum’s “thump” is captured by the WA-47F. The air pressure “boom” of the resonant kick drum head is a huge sound easily missed by the dynamic mic. Adding a WA-47F to your kick will have a huge spatial effect on the sound, making tracks feel more alive and less robotic.

Vocals

The original mic recorded Bon Scott (AC/DC), David Lee Roth (Van Halen), and Michael Stipe (REM). The Warm Audio WA-47F Microphone, like the original, provides strong, precise voices from screaming hair metal to gentle falsettos over famous indie music.

 

Guitar & Bass Cabinets

The original is also a studio favorite for capturing guitar and bass cabinets, particularly percussive, loud guitar sections like AC/DC. The open condenser capsule and circuit’s capacity to tolerate high SPLs allow you to tape guitars loudly without losing clarity. Rockers will notice.
