The Moog Mother-32 Semi-Modular Analog Synthesizer joins Eurorack. This vintage-voiced, raw, powerful synthesizer has switchable lowpass and highpass Moog ladder filters (20Hz-20kHz), a voltage-controlled 32-step sequencer for self-programming, a MIDI input for external control and MIDI to CV conversion, and a 32-point 3.5mm patchbay for interconnectivity and extended synthesis. The Mother-32 excites current modular synth fans. Starting with the Eurorack synth platform couldn’t be easier.
The semi-modular Mother-32 has Moog analog sound and contemporary convenience. Its enormous analog tone from thick and wooly to crisp and steely. The Mother-32’s small toggle switches let you route most modulation sources for powerful sound composition. You can create earth-shaking bass, screaming leads, and ambient effects without patch cables. The Mother-32’s 32-point patchbay lets you link Eurorack modules to build a complicated and powerful synthesizer. The MIDI to CV converter and 5-pin MIDI input interconnect your synth gear. Build a larger synth rig? Take a 2-tier or 3-tier rack kit for your Mother-32, add a chassis or two, and fill it with amazing Eurorack modules from Tiptop Audio, Pittsburgh Modular, Studio Electronics, and others.
Saw, pulse, and pulse width are available in the Mother-32’s oscillator section. The noise generator and filter resonance may self-oscillate, making them oscillators with a simple patch. LFO modify the Mother-32’s VCO and VCF, or other Eurorack modules through the patchbay. For creative effects, the LFO has square and triangular wave forms at audio speeds. Shape sounds rapidly using the AD(SR) envelope’s Attack and Decay controls. Switching to Sustain turns Decay into Release. You can create percussive strikes, plucks, sustained leads, and changing soundscapes. Moog’s ladder filter has the most fat. The LFO, envelope, or external CV may modulate the Mother-32’s lowpass or highpass filter.
Two sequence modes make it easy to lay down patterns with the Mother-32. KB mode allows you to play notes in directly from the keyboard panel, while Step mode lets you program in notes manually. You can combine the two modes to play and edit patterns with incredible detail. Each step in your sequence has variable gate length, and with ties, glide, and accent control, you’ll be able to achieve highly animated sequences (64 custom sequences can be created and saved). You can also add multi-note ratchets to individual steps to create cool stutter effects. And while the sequencer is running, temporarily mute playback, add accents, ratchet the sequence, and transpose the sequence for creative live performance potential.
