With up to 40 3G-SDI inputs for cameras and other media, this switcher can flawlessly merge close cams, wide views, computer displays, music, green screens, and more! Each input has a converter that can convert any 1080p feed to the witcher’s standard. Each input may receive a separate television standard and output a single unified standard, saving Sweetwater content creators and directors time! All SDI channels have program audio, RP-188 timecode, SDI camera control, tally, and talkback output. No matter how much I/O you utilize, the ATEM 4 M/E Constellation HD’s 5-inch HD LCD display and LED buttons provide complete control. In addition to switcher control, media uploads, audio mixing, camera control, and more, ATEM Software provides practically infinite workflow flexibility.
With Blackmagic ATEM gear, livestreaming is smooth and efficient. The device features a built-in hardware streaming engine with output over Ethernet or USB-C. Computer software essentially detects the ATEM’s output as a single webcam signal which lets the mixer stream via Facebook, YouTube, and other major platforms (as well as work with common streaming software such as Open Broadcaster and XSplit Broadcaster). Those looking for even more hardware power can expand the ATEM 4 M/E Constellation HD’s feature set by adding an ATEM Advanced Panel for professional switching or an ATEM Camera Control Panel for more camera control (both sold separately).
ATEM Constellation HD switchers use the “program/preview” operation style that’s favored by professional newsrooms and broadcasters. The “Program/preview” is essentially a safety mechanism that prevents onscreen mishaps. Selecting any source will cue a preview bus, so you can verify a selected feed is what should be on-air. With this pro-style switching, mistakes tend to become few and far in between. It’s a great way to expose students and volunteers to professional video workflow!
The Blackmagic Design ATEM 4 M/E Constellation HD offers ample audio connections with four total balanced 1/4-inch inputs (two per channel) and an endless array of ways to mix and send audio. The ATEM 4 M/E Constellation HD also incorporates a 156-channel Fairlight audio mixer for full audio control and seamless mixing between sources. Each input channel sports extensive controls including 6-band EQ, a robust compressor, a limiter, a noise gate, full stereo panning, and more. There’s also convenient level and peak metering for efficient sound monitoring with a visual reference.
When it’s showtime, communication is essential. The ATEM 4 M/E Constellation HD features integrated talkback connectors with 5-pin XLR in/out for straightforward headset connection. There’s also an RJ45 connector on the rear panel for interfacing with popular professional talkback systems including ClearCom and RTS. Via the ATEM or ATEM control software, you get full talkback control including program and engineering loops, and sidetone control for hearing a headset mic through the program mix. ATEM Constellation HD also supports SDI talkback that uses SDI channels for 2-way communication with Blackmagic Design cameras. It’s even possible to mix talkback audio directly into the program mix for voiceovers.

ATEM creates impressive virtual sets! 16 sophisticated chroma keyers, two SuperSource multi-layer processors, and composition and transition effects are included in the 4 M/E Constellation model. The chroma keyer’s color picker samples a backdrop color and provides key settings for a clean professional virtual set. Edge, flare, and foreground color corrector adjustments are also included. Keyers may be used for picture-in-picture layers, transition effects, and border color, width, location, and orientation. SuperSource’s sophisticated multi-layer processor has additional DVE layers and a backdrop layer. SuperSource DVE works with any SDI input, making it a multi-layer VFX switcher. SuperSource is handy for layering in picture-in-picture situations like remote interviews. Graphics, stills, branding, and more may be stored in a media pool for live recall, making branded broadcasts easy. The ATEM’s media pool, keyer, and DVE tools appear as input sources and never deplete SDI inputs.
